Controlling the Clutter

[Re: “Time To Downsize,” May/June 2008] Since I had to clean my parents’ and in-laws’ homes, I made up my mind that my children wouldn’t have to go through stuff that should have been disposed of long ago. If I don’t use something in a year, I give it away, donate it, recycle it, or sell it.

In 1986, I inherited my mother’s matchbook cover collection. Being from another state, I couldn’t carry any big items home. My siblings got vehicles, tools, antiques, and furniture. Twenty years later, I sold the matchbook covers on eBay! Who would have thought?
