Do You Know About “The Daffodil Principle”?

I heard the story today from someone I admire. Now, I rarely read the sappy e-tales that circulate in cyberspace. But bear with me for a moment. In a nutshell, one woman made the decision to plant one daffodil bulb at a time, beginning in 1958. Over 40+ years, she planted some 50,000 bulbs, transforming the five acres of rocky ground surrounding her modest home in the San Bernardino mountain range of southern California into a virtual explosion of color and drawing people from miles around.

I guess her daffodils still bloom each spring. But even if they don’t, just think about the life lessons contained in her story. Stop waiting for good things to happen. Begin today (or tomorrow, latest). Persevere. Create beauty. Love the doing. Celebrate the seasons.

There’s more to the story and you can find it online if you are interested. But be prepared if you want to buy an illustrated gift copy. I just checked Amazon, and a used illustrated version of The Daffodil Principle by Jaroldeen Edwards lists for $78.97!

So I’m going to a garden store. And I’m wondering what special lesson the story has for me. What does it stir in you? Do you have an inspirational message to share?

My Grandmother planted daffodils over 50 years ago and every spring I enjoy seeing them cover the hills at the old home place in Lucien, Mississippi. I think
any thing of beauty is a gift from God for all of us to enjoy!
