A field of sunflowers colors the landscape yellow and green along the New York State Thruway between Syracuse and Rochester. Just like their name, sunflowers adore full sun and warm weather. This plant is a North American native and was a key food crop for native peoples. Today, they’re still grown for food as their seeds make a wholesome snack and are pressed into vegetable oil.

Nice shot! I have heard of the beautiful fields of sunflowers in the Skaneateles area, but have never seen them. When’s the best time to visit? When are the fields in full bloom and where, exactly are they? Thanks,

We directed your question to the Skaneateles Chamber of Commerce. Here is the response: “We checked with a local florist, and they said the month of August and a little into September is when the sunflowers are in full bloom. There is a huge field of them on West Lake Road on Route 41A in Skaneateles and also another field on Route 5 in Camillus.”
The most beautiful sight I have ever seen.
