The disappearance of Theodosia Burr Alston, the daughter of former vice president Aaron Burr, is one of Charleston’s most chilling and unexplained ghost stories. On December 31, 1912, Theodosia set sail on the schooner Patriot. The Patriot, its crew, and passengers were never seen or heard from again. Portrait by John Vanderlyn, 1802.
