I was a new bride in 1946 when Post Yarns were introduced. I had just left my job secretarial job at the Pentagon. My new husband was on reserve status, having served as a bombardier in the Air Force. His plane had been shot down over Yugoslavia (they were flying out of Italy). He bailed out, hid for days until he needed food and drink so badly he risked knocking on a peasant's door. They welcomed him with food and water and hid him until they could contact Marshall Tito. He marched out of Yugoslavia with Tito's men. It took him two months to get back to U.S. held territory. I believe he carried the New Testament in the pocket of his uniform.
