Now for the Paul Harvey of the story. Yes, our mother did call. Yes, the details are correct . Yes the O'Malley's connection to the Kennedy family is accurately depicted. Now for some historica accuracy, our parents were married in June not April (Dan Jr. was married in April ) and were divorced in the mid 60's. Dan and Hannah went on to marry others, and I believe that even though my brother would like to romanticize them being together it dishonors the ones they went on to love. Dan Sr. married Jessie Van Kirk and cared for her during a terrible illness with cancer. Hannah went on to marry the Honorable Virtus J.Kruse, state rep for the stat e of Ohio. She cared for him (away from home) during a terrible illness during the blizzard of "77/78 . He passed away after 6 weeks in the ICU. Hannah married Henry Harrison Huff, divorced him after 11 years and then, after 30 years apart, remarried Dan Sr. May they rest in peace.

This is the kind of uplifting story that I love to read. It shows that anything is possible as long as we always keep love in our hearts. I think this O'malley has really given us a piece of himself letting us in on what seems to be a turbulant yet special time in his families life. This was one of the best articles I have read in a long time.

This article tells a very candid story about the day Mr. O'Malley's mother called the White House. This is such a wonderful tribute from a boy to his parents. The pictures help tell the story as well. I hope to see this published in the magazine!

It is good to see a poor Irishman get a break once in a while. As far as the other guy who was aced out of the job, I'm sure that the Republicans took care of him.
Great article !

Nice story about what appears to have been a lovely family.
No tears, though, for the man who was originally chosen as Marshall?--the man aced-out by political pull.
Government always plays Santa Claus at somebody's expense.
