It’s all about the hat. Trying on Easter bonnets is this lady from 1920. Leyendecker enjoyed contrasting, shall we say, rather corpulent matrons with slim, pretty young ladies.

Another great Leyendecker. This one shows the sculptured quality that was characteristic of a good many of his covers; especially on the young woman’s dress, and even her hair. The contrast of the two women certainly adds to its charm. I think so anyway.
