We were walking down Madison Avenue recently when we noticed a fellow New Yorker crossing against a red light. A police officer standing some 20 feet from him yelled, “Hey you, come here!” The pedestrian looked the officer over coolly, then said, “You know, you don’t have to yell at me. All you have to do is blow that whistle I bought you.”
