I first read this story in the seventh grade (1966) it has always been one of my childhood favorites.

I have always been told about this tale, it is only today that I have finally read it. I absolutely loved it, it is so much better than the third and fourth hand versions, which have been told to me, make it sound.

After reading this story, I wondered how many TV programs and movies successfully used O.Henry’s theme. It was fun to read it after so many years.
