I was in a gift shop in Times Square today. On the wall were white and navy pinstripe jerseys. Numbers 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 16, 23, 32, 37, 44....and on and on. Past and present Yankee jerseys everywhere, except for one lone, plain white, jersey. It read Cardinals across the front and was easy to pick out amongst the sea of pinstripes. The name on the back.....#6 Musial.
Even in the Big Apple, he is still remembered as Baseball's Perfect Knight.

I've been a St. Louis Cardinals fan since birth, even though I grew up in New Jersey. And Stan was, and still is, my baseball hero! I'm thrilled that he'll receive the Medal Of Freedom award this year. No one is more deserving. Stan, you're not only one of the games greatest players, you're BASEBALL to me.

Stan Musial of baseball fame
Would with his harmonica play
Yes, "Take me out to the ball game."
"Stan the Man" wowed 'em in his day.
As hitter and outfielder champ,
He stayed and played with just one team.
The St. Louis Cardinals stamp -
He wore it with pride and esteem.
A real role model for the youth,
Giving his autograph and heart.
On and off the field, in all truth,
A one of a kind work of art.

Baseball's beloved "Stan the Man"
Gave the game a glorious span.

As a long time St. Louis resident, I am always delighted to see publicity for Stan the Man. He has been overlooked way too much during his career and since. He is an exemplary man, and every St. Louisan should be very very proud of him. I wish this article could appear in the print version of the Post so many more would be able to read it. Thanks for recognizing The Man's true greatness.
