Great article. As a veterinarian its always hard giving people fee estimates for surgery - but the truth is that a lump is a lump until it is removed and sent for histopathology, no one can tell you for sure what it is otherwise. They are often not cancerous but often they are, and sometimes simply removing the lump cures the condition. As a pet owner myself I understand the torment, but didn't question when I removed a lump from my cat (she alerted me that a clinic I lived in was being robbed - without her growling I would have slept through). Whether she'd done that or not would not have altered my decision - pets write themselves into the background of your life and their presence enriches us. Thanks for writing such an honest tribute.
