Melody ~ Insomnia (which the expert mentions) and somnolence (including drowsiness which you mention) are considered two different side effects by the FDA. The Intuniv website on Table 2 lists the risk of insomnia at 12%. But it’s 18% for somnolence. Taken together, quite a few people who take it have some kind of sleep issue. But of course, only the parent, child, and doctor can decide whether or not a drug’s benefits outweigh its side effects.

as a parent of a child with adhd and takes intuniv, i have to disagree with what the dr. says. He claims that it does not appear to cause sleep problems. I have spoken to over 25 parents that have had children on the medication and it has caused sleep issues. go to the forums and see what parents have to say about it. go to the intuniv website, it tells you that it may cause drowiness. I dont know what kind of dr. this is that you interviewed but maybe you should interview someone that knows what they are talking about. Im not trying to be rude but it upsets me when someone in his position claims something that is not true.
