Thank you for the memories of this remarkable man. I'm sure he must have been the inspiration for the many entertainers who visit our troops. We were lucky to have seen such extraordinary kindness.

I saw Bob Hope perform at Universal Studios. He was always so funny. But that night I saw the caring side of him. His wife tripped on something on the stage and he was really concerned for her welfare. It was really nice to see his family side.

Bob Hope gave soldiers fifty years
Of U.S.O. entertainment.
Through times of war and peace, the cheers
Charged Hope's heart wherever he went.
But good cheer was not always fast,
Especially with wounded ones.
If any joke punchlines were cast,
Let the injured hit the homeruns.
Hope would play second fiddle straight,
And give the soldier lines to make
A bit of fun out of a fate
That fell upon for freedom's sake.

The soldier closed with one last grin,
Then death took over life within.

There's no one like Bob Hope, and there never will be again, of course. Just to realize he entertained the troops from Word War II through the Gulf War is incredible, and of course all of his movies and TV Specials. Wonderful man.
