A veteran of World War II,
A college classmate as his wife,
Dreams of a family came true.
He got active in civil rights,
Working for change by peaceful ways.
But others chose violent fights,
But still he worked for better days,
Exposing wrong that did exist,
And turning right some of that wrong.
But then a white supremacist
Decided he had lived too long.

Medgar Evers was shot and killed,
Overshadowing life fulfilled.
