Cat Goes Out of Way to Walk Past Dog in Window

Jul/Aug 2004

After a little 10- or 12-hour nap, there’s nothing like taking a stroll to see if you can irritate the dog next door. Yep, works every time. This appeared in the Post in 2004.

“Just throw her a ball of yarn and she’s busy for hours.”

Nov/Dec 2001

This is probably not the picture you had in mind when you read the caption! This 2001 cartoon shows that cats do much more than sleep all day (and aggravate dogs).

“No! She can’t come out to play again.”

Jul/Aug 2002

Honestly, humans are so touchy. This is another busy feline. Abe Lincoln reportedly said, “No matter how much the cats fight, there always seem to be plenty of kittens.”

“I bought Harvey a cat because having a pet will be good for his blood pressure.”

Sep/Oct 2005

Well, cats ARE good for your blood pressure—when they’re not giving you a heart attack. Mine loves to jump on my stomach when I least expect it. I’m sure having the wind knocked out of you regularly is healthy. But the snuggle time is worth it.

“We’ll have to make sure that sneaky cat doesn’t get this batch of fish.”

July/Aug 2004

Some would say cats are sneaky. This is ridiculous, of course; some felines just enjoy scuba diving.

Cat Demands Seat on Sofa

Jul/Aug 2004

Some would dare to suggest that the real head of the household is the cat. Hey, maybe Tiger just wanted a warm spot. It is said that everyone needs a dog to adore him and a cat to bring him back to reality.

Beautiful! Do have to add a comment though. My dog Max, a Catahoula Leopard Dog, just loves cats. He tells me they taste just like chicken. Cat lovers, I didn’t say it, Max did!!!!

Over the years we have taken in many cats from shelters, and they have added so much to our lives. There are many shelters brimming with all breeds, sizes and colors of cats “wishing” to be adopted into a good, kind home and have a chance for a good life.

Something related, the Summer 1971 issue of the Post (when it came out seasonally right after its comeback) includes a humorous article, “His Majesty the Cat” by Paul Gallico. The premise was the cat is the King or Queen of your household. It includes mentions of cat lovers through history, an interesting anecdote about Charles Dickens and his attention-seeking cat, and a quote from Mark Twain, “If man could be crossed with the cat, it would improve man but it would deteriorate the cat.”
