I agree with Elise and Sabrina! We know (now)'The Artist' DID win best picture, and I'm very glad it did. In addition to the actors, the dog was the REAL scene stealer. Tremendous film. As far as the old-time silents went, I too would have thought the audiences were 'biding their time' (with the silents) until they had sound. Who knew--until now?! Great article!

Norma Talmadge - that was my name,
A roaring twenties movie star.
The silent films made me my fame.
Talkies made me hardy har har,
Because my glamour did not fit
Well with my flat Brooklyn accent.
So I just said the heck with it,
Took my money and off I went.
Hollywood tried to do me mean.
Norma in Sunset Boulevard,
That grotesque silent movie queen,
Mocked me as a weirdo once starred.

Star tradition - my accident.
Grauman's - I stepped in wet cement.

I've seen The Artist, and surely hope it wins the Best Picture Oscar. It is a great movie,

and the stars are sooo talented and expressive that sound isn't needed!
