Through heavens innocent blue,
White angel wings fly safe and high,
Cherubim and seraphim
Against the peaceful sky;
Until the moon’s pale silver lamp
Calls fragile hosts that drift and roam,
And through the tender, brooding dusk
The little clouds go home.

Inspirational poet Fleur Conkling Heyliger’s recognizable and heartwarming poem The Answer (to an Adopted Child) first appeared in the April 5, 1952 issue of the Saturday Evening Post.

THE ANSWER (To an adopted child)

Not flesh of my flesh,
Nor bone of my bone,
But still miraculously
My own.
Never forget
For a single minute:
You didn’t grow under my heart,
But in it.
—Fleur Conkling Heyliger
