An Incredible Story
I am looking for an article titled "Alcoholic Anonymous" written by Jack Alexander, which appeared ill the March 1, 1941, Saturday Evening Post. While you are searching for this article, will you also please check to see If by some fat chance the entire March 1, 1941 issue is available?
I recently saw a copy of this article and was able to read the story of the beginnings of Alcoholics Anonymous. What an incredible story.
I am certain that The Saturday Evening Post has over the years printed and published hundreds of thousands of well-written, emotionally stirring articles. However, I would be willing to bet that none has had a larger impact on mankind or (womankind) across the entire world as has this one article by Jack Alexander. Without The Saturday Evening Post publishing Jack Alexander's article concerning Alcoholics Anonymous, AA might never have grown to be accepted by medical professionals, religious leaders, and/ or the needy drunks. In 1941 when this article was written and printed. It started a ripple that has continued to grow and has reached nearly every country In the world. When the idea of AA was first conceived by Dr. Bob Smith and Bill Wilson, neither of the cofounders would have ever imagined to what lengths AA could and would go in just 70-plus years.
As a young boy, I was witness to the devastation that alcoholics can manufacture in a home. However, by the time I turned 11 years old, both of my parents were sobering up in the program of Alcoholics Anonymous.
Thanks to AA mid my involvement in it, my morn was able to see me gel sober and stay that way for the last 11 years of her life. My wife and kids have been spared from having to endure the hell and devastation that an active alcoholic can create within a home.
