In Support of Stem Cells

Don't get me wrong. I'm a religious person with a firm conviction that life is precious. But after reading Dr. Mehmet Oz's feature "Demystifying Stem Cells" (Nov./Dec. 2004 issue), I am changing gears.
If federal restrictions are in place to oversee use, why would we discard or otherwise destroy fertilized eggs (or blastocysts, as they call them) instead of putting them to good use to help save and preserve lives?
