Garrison Keillor
A new bookstore in town may not be big news, but it is when the St. Paul, Minnesota, proprietor happens to be Garrison Keillor. The longtime host of the popular "A Prairie Home Companion" radio show and star of a recent movie by the same name opened Common Good Books to showcase local, regional, and national authors endorsed by Keillor, including an entire shelf dedicated to the works of F. Scott Fitzgerald. Customers looking for romance novels, dummies guides, and tomes on antiques and computers may not find them. It's not because the store looks down on the categories; it's because you can find those everywhere.
For Keillor, who has authored 16 books, the store fulfills "an old fantasy, dating back to childhood." "A book is a gift you can open again and again," says the proud store owner.
