The Cover
Towser is thinking, One minute the boy I love wants me to be with him, next minute he doesn't. Do human beings think or do they just muddle along on instinct? This is a good subject to change. As to what will happen in the church, George Hughes says he doesn't know, and what a help he is.
If an usher comes to remove Towser, he may find the dog a distressing nonconformist. If Towser jumps into the vacing seat behind his master, surely the parishioner next o him will think it incongruous to be sitting in a pew beside a dog, and surely papa and mamma, when they turn around, will agree with him. And if the boy arises to take his friend home, will not Towser fill the church with a hosanna of happy barks?
Whatever happens, papa and mamma will wind up in a heathen frame of mind.
