Dear Dr. SerVaas: After reading your article on shingles in the July/August issue, I just have to write to tell you about a case my mother-in-law had a few years back and what we did.
An elderly neighbor brought my wife a bunch of roots from stinging nettles. He had her clean them, then put them in the oven at a drying temperature. After that he told her to put them in a pan, boil them, and make a tea. After she did all that, he told my wife to give some of that tea to my mother-in-law to drink. Within 24 hours she felt better, and within three days she had no more itching and pain, although the rash took longer to disappear. I don't remember exactly how much and how often she drank that tea; however, I think it might have been half a glass every few hours.
