Dear Dr. SerVaas: I've been wearing copper bracelets for at least 10 years now, and yes, they work! It must be 100 percent copper, though. I wear two on my right wrist, and when the pain moves to under my thumb, I move the bracelet and hold it there for several minutes, until the pain leaves. And it does. I was able to write all my 100 Christmas cards without any pain or discomfort. The only time the bracelets turned green was during a hot summer day--then I used the copper cleaner that's used for pots--bought in supermarket, I recommend copper!

Dear Reader: My mother used to frown when I would hand her a Teflon-coated skillet to prepare a tomato sauce. She would always ask, "Where is your iron skillet?" Iron evidently leaches into foods, especially acidic ones like tomatoes. Might copper also leach into the body through your skin?
Perhaps grandmas in Malaysia who wear copper bracelets know something about relief from arthritis pain. There are many attractive copper bracelets that would hardly reveal that you are trying to treat an arthritic thumb joint.
Bob Silvers, an executive in our organization, swears by his copper bracelet. The popular vitamin for seniors, Centrum Silver, contains 2 rags of copper. Perhaps for some of us, 2 rags of copper is not enough.
