Cherry Almond Scones

Restaurants and inns in Door County, Wisconsin, keep a ready supply of dried cherries on hand so they can offer their “specialties of the house,” such as Cherry Almond Scones from the Blacksmith Inn on the Shore, year-round.

(Makes 8 servings)

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup chilled butter
  • 2/3 cup whipping cream

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup dried cherries, cut into pieces
  • Sliced almonds

Preheat oven to 325 F. Combine first 4 ingredients. Cut in butter with pastry blender. Combine wet ingredients with dry ingredients just until moistened. Add cherries. Mixture will be very sticky. Brush tops with whipping cream and sprinkle with sliced almonds and sugar. Bake for 18-22 minutes.

I just took mine out of the oven. Used apricots as I didn’t have enough cherries on hand. They have a great flavor. Mine didn’t brown at all at 325 so I think next time I might try a higher temp. Thanks for the recipe!
