Random Notes

Artemis II is scheduled to return to Earth today (Friday) at 8:07 p.m. EST. Here are some great photos the crew has taken.

When I watch those commercials for hair replacement and they show “before and after” photos, I almost always think the guy looks better bald.

Years ago I wrote an essay about how I was stuck at the mall for eight hours. I used the line “the mall is a great place to visit but I wouldn’t want to live there.” But after reading about these new apartments at Rhode Island’s Arcade Mall, I think I’ve changed my mind.

It might be fun to have a Barnes & Noble and a Buffalo Wild Wings right below your apartment.

The technology that companies are working on never seems to be the kind of technology we were promised or wanted.

Route 66 is 100, and the Associated Press has a great “then and now” feature.

The thing that’s so great about the web – there’s always something new to read! – is also what’s terrible about the web.

Sometimes if something bad happens, I’ll say “I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy.” But then I think: wait … my worst enemy? Of course I’d wish it on them. They’re my worst enemy!

What has happened to cereal? What was once a regular box of cereal is now called the “family size.” The smaller box is as thin as a magazine.

I bet there would be plenty of places to park if you lived at the mall.

Don’t Believe Everything You Read on Social Media

I don’t know why anyone would want to make a fake social media account just to make people believe that Jonathan, the world’s oldest tortoise, had died. But someone did. Luckily, Jonathan is still alive.

He was born around 1832, which means he’s only a decade younger than the Post (and much older than Route 66).

This Week in History

Microsoft Founded (April 4, 1975)

Since I mentioned Apple last week, it’s only fair to mention Microsoft this week.

Joseph Pulitzer Born (April 10, 1847)

Here’s a list of the winners of the Pulitzers by year and by category.

This Week in Saturday Evening Post History: Del Monte Canned Fruits (April 10, 1948)

I don’t eat enough fruit. I need to change that.

Monday Is National Peach Cobbler Day

And since I don’t eat enough fruit, it has been many years since I have had a peach cobbler. Or any kind of cobbler, actually. I don’t eat a lot of cobbled foods.

Here’s a recipe for a Skillet Peach Cobbler from The Country Cook, and here’s one for an Old-Fashioned Peach Cobbler from Tastes Better From Scratch.

If you use canned peaches for either of those recipes, please be careful.

Next Week’s Holidays and Events

90th Masters (April 11-12)

I could tell you how to watch the final rounds of the tournament and which TV network will be showing which hole, but it would take several hours and give me a headache. Instead, here’s a handy guide.

Taxes Due (April 15)

Of course, the date your state taxes are due may vary depending on where you live. Here’s a state-by-state breakdown.
