Alfred E. Orr (1871-1931) painted in the San Gabriel Valley of California from 1919-1925. Later, Orr was financed by Sir Charles Higham, an English advertising executive. According to an article in a 1926 issue of Time magazine, Higham commented that "Orr looks like a greater man than Rembrandt," and had rented for Orr the London studio of the late John Singer Sargent. Orr painted six covers for The Saturday Evening Post in 1920 and 1921.
