For more than five decades, filmmaker and photographer Jerry Schatzberg has captured the portraits of some of the world’s most famous celebrities. In the ’60s, The Saturday Evening Post featured three iconic covers by Schatzberg: Sonny and Cher on April 23, 1966, the classic photo of Bob Dylan on July 30, 1966, and a stunning black and white portrait of Faye Dunaway that appeared on the September 7, 1968.

In the 1970s Schatzberg went on to become a successful feature film director. His first film, Puzzle of a Downfall Child starring Faye Dunaway, premiered in 1970. He went on to direct 13 more films including The Panic in Needle Park (1971) starring Al Pacino, Honeysuckle Rose (1980) with Willie Nelson, and Street Smart (1987) starring Christopher Reeve and Morgan Freeman.
