Derek Updegraff is the author of the fiction collections Pup! et cetera (2020) and The Butcher’s Tale and Other Stories (2016), as well as the poetry collection Paintings That Look Like Things (2018). His short stories, poems, and translations have appeared in The Carolina Quarterly, CutBank, Fiction International, The Greensboro Review, the minnesota review, North Dakota Quarterly, Notre Dame Review, Tikkun, and other places. Originally from San Diego, he lives with his family in upstate South Carolina and is an associate professor of English at Anderson University.
