Vacation travel in the U.S. peaks during the summer months as schools let out and millions of Americans hit the roads and the skies for some time away from the usual. According to a survey in March by the consumer finance company Bankrate, 46 percent of Americans are planning a summer vacation this year, down from 53 percent last year. However, in the same survey, the number of respondents who weren’t planning on vacationing also fell, from 29 percent in 2024 to 24 percent this year.
How does this add up? The number of respondents who replied that they were “not sure” of their summer vacations plans rose, from 18 percent to 23 percent, as many Americans take a wait-and-see approach, keeping an eye on shifting costs and fiscal uncertainty.
We wondered whether Saturday Evening Post readers would mirror this national response.
