In 1999, the U.S. Mint began a new quarter design program, replacing the eagle on the “tails” side of the quarter with five new images each year. The first series featured all 50 U.S. states, beginning with Delaware and ending, in 2008, with Hawaii. 2009 saw quarters commemorating Washington, D.C., and five U.S. territories. From 2010 to 2021, quarters in the America the Beautiful Program highlighted national parks or landmarks in all 50 states, 5 territories, and Washington, D.C.

Beginning in 2022, the Mint moved away from geography with the American Women Quarters Program, featuring 20 influential women such as Sally Ride, Maya Angelou, Eleanor Roosevelt, and — coming in 2025 — Ida B. Wells and Althea Gibson. But that program will reach its end later this year.

After the American Women Quarters Program ends in 2025, what group of Americans should the U.S. Mint feature next on the quarter?
