  1. I served 2 tours in a Marine Recon unit. It’s the dark humor, like you see in these cartoons, that kept us going. You had to have been there to understand. My fiance broke up with me 4 times during my 2 years there. After each “Dear John”, I told her to find some loser and marry him. I had a job to do and I would be home when I finished. By the way, I got a letter from 2 of your best friends wanting to know if they could wait for me.

  2. I know Vietnam War was a difficult time for America and the cartoons are reminiscent of the time. But many of these are shamefully tasteless. Just think how many families this affected by sending their spouses, fathers, sons into the war which was not winnable. How many went missing in action or returned home to grieving families? Apparently, you have no idea, don’t remember, or don’t know anyone who was affected by this war. Being from a small, rural area I do. I hope never again to see such a tasteless display in a section of SNP meant to be humourous.

  3. Some wonderful cartoons on Vietnam—- of all topics! I’ll go with #7 (also opening picture) as my favorite here. It’s probably based on fact; asking soldiers to move for a better picture. #6 with the dancing hippie/flower child speaks for itself. The ‘Dear John’ letter (#4) is sad but still entertaining, even though that’s not a nice thing to say.
