Knowles Hare (1884-1947), or in some cases John Hare, illustrated for many magazines during his time, including Woman’s Home Companion, Harper’s Weekly, Ladies’ Home Journal, Cosmopolitan, Modern Priscilla, American Magazine, Country Gentleman, and The Saturday Evening Post. Images he created appeared on different advertisements for Palmolive Soap, Packard’s Shampoo, and Elgin Watch Company. He also designed elegant postcards and calendarsHare was also a part of the Society of Illustrators of New York. His wife, Gladys Granger, was frequently a model for his pictures.
