Lonie Bee (1902-1995) was born in Santa Rosa, California. He studied at the University of California, Berkeley, The California School of Fine Arts, and the California College of Arts and Crafts. Whether it was football, bowling, or baseball, all six of Bee’s Saturday Evening Post covers had a sports theme. In addition to his magazine work, Bee also created a 23-foot-wide illustrated map for the Orinda, California, BART station. The mural was granted historic landmark status and was eventually moved to the Orinda Community Center for preservation.
