Very interesting video on some great baseball covers by Dohanos, Falter and Mayan, what was going on with the teams at the time, and tying it in with the present.
Remember also when the little league umpire asked if Becky was Elden’s daughter. He said yes, and the umpire said she was the best pitcher in the league.
I admire and enjoy Norman Rockwell are. I have the policeman talking to the runaway on my wall, Reminds me of Rebecca about that age, Packing a few things, walking to the mailbox and standing there for a short time. Came back in and responded to my question as to why she did not leave, “I did not know which way to go.”
We also have Grandma in a crowded cafe praying with her grandson while a lot of young me watch in amazement.
Then there is the same girl as the above, sitting outside the principal’s office, smiling in victory with 2 black eyes awaiting her turn to tell her story.
HOW WELL I REMEMBER THE MID 1940’S. THE WAR WAS OVER AND WE THOUGHT THE CHICAGO CUBS COULD POSSIBLY WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP. I ATTENDED TWENTY SIX GAMES AND THEY WON TWENTY FIVE. I STILL THINK I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN A SEASON TICKET. IT TOOK SIXTY YEARS; BUT, OUR HOPES WERE FINALLY FULFILLED. ALL A PERSON HAS TO DO IS LIVE LONG ENOUGH AND IT WILL HAPPEN!
