Located less than an hour from Galway, Ashford Castle dates back to 1228. Once home to the famous Guinness family, the historic castle now welcomes guests from around the world. Lovingly restored historic pieces like sparkling chandeliers and silver tea sets ooze castle charm, but modern touches like a cinema with red velvet chairs and indoor pool, give castle life a comfy twist. And as this video shows, one of the best ways to explore the 350-acre estate is on a walk with the pair of resident Irish wolfhounds, or one of the three dozen Harris hawks that call the castle home.
