We all have opinions about things; opinions that will never change. Maybe it’s ignorance, maybe it’s stubbornness, maybe it’s simply the fact that we think what we think, and if you’re of a certain age there’s no way you’re going to have your mind changed by a new fact or an irritated spouse or friend who might think you’re too “set in your ways.”

I’m of that certain age, and these are the things I believe and I’m not going to budge, no matter who argues with me.

  1. Early sunsets – even at 4 p.m. – are better than later ones.

  16. Seth MacFarlane is a good singer and Sam Smith is a bad one.
  17. Cats are overrated.
  18. Beaches are too.
  19. Charles Schulz was more important than Van Gogh or Renoir.
  20. People who don’t return shopping carts to the corral are pure evil.
  21. The only people who should wear baseball caps backwards are six-year-olds and catchers.
  22. Watching bowling is more exciting than watching soccer.
  23. Florida is a great place to visit but I wouldn’t want to live there.
  24. 98 percent of people who drive a car are terrible at it.
  25. If you’re constantly on your phone at dinner or with a friend or on holidays, what you’re telling me is that you’d rather be somewhere else.
  26. I know this makes me sound like an old fogey, but I honestly believe the pop music being produced today is worse than it has ever been.
  27. A hot dog is a sandwich if you put it between two slices of bread.
  28. Cold pie is better than warm.
  29. Lobster is disgusting.
  30. Walnuts don’t belong in brownies.

Actually, that last one isn’t even a controversial opinion. It’s just common sense.
